On the road again, we head out one beautiful late February morning to find more Organic wholefoods for our customers. The journey took us up the Armidale Road to the beautiful country of Tyringham on the quest for Certified Organic potatoes and garlic. The crispness of the morning hinted at the approach of Autum and the air was sweet with the scent of wildflowers.
Along the way we discovered fascinating sculptures of wooden figures, carved by artistic residents and wildflowers gracing the roadside everywhere we looked.
When we saw this sign we knew we had arrived:
Ken’s modest farm is quaint and very productive with pumpkins to discover,
garlic to taste,
and fascinating life where ever we looked.
Tip the one eyed farm dog greeted us with her stick, eye begging for a game of fetch:
Whilst Ladybug, the blue heeler, watched on from the sideline, waiting patiently for a pat:
As Ken educated us on garlic reproduction
and the virtues of the humble spud,
our children searched the recently harvested rows, finding enough little gems for our dinner that night:
As we discussed the growing conditions and fertization requirements of these supreme staples, we were introduced to varieties we’d never heard of, which we’ll get to try in the months to come when they mature. For now though, we brought home Sebagoes, Dutch Creams, and the delicious Desirees and lovely memories of a day well spent in the search of nourishing whole foods.
What a great job Farmer Ken is doing by growing these vital foods for us in such a healthy and ethical way. We give thanks for his dedication to sustainability and his passion for clean, unadulterated, real foods.
